ICDU View: Year-at-a-Glance

Here we are at the end of 2010. It has been a good year for ICDU with previous projects refined and continuing and new projects being launched. I thought it appropriate to give a quick rundown of what you all helped accomplish through ICDU this year:

  • Three stable, free-of-charge libraries with weekly or bi-weekly events
  • Outreach to children and families at libraries
  • Two back-to-school bashes for kids in Porvenir and Alto Selva Alegre
  • Special library event with drama group and free bibles for the kids
  • A chocolatada in Porvenir (party where kids get cake and hot chocolate)
  • An incentive program geared to promote reading for fun and literacy
  • Partnering with the Rotary Club to provide glasses to kids in need
  • First loan paid off in full (Yenny)
  • Four new ZERO interest loans made through ICDU to Glerida, Betty, Ines and Maura
  • 34 total lenders giving $9000 (another $2000 has been relent)
  • Borrower Empowerment seminars being led by church member Paty
  • Inauguration of water tanks in Naranjal to hold fresh, clean, drinkable water
  • Sought participants in Naranjal and Villa de Socabaya for our first two latrine groups
  • Began latrine construction in Naranjal
  • first latrine to be done by end of year
  • Made good use of three interns at the libraries and Naranjal

I may be forgetting some things but that, in a nutshell, is what happened with ICDU this year. It has been a great year and we are excited about what God has in store for 2011. These projects will continue on and we will be adding new short- and long-term projects thanks in part to Peruvian christians like Paty, Alfredo, and Abraham partnering with us. Praise God for allowing us to partner with Him in Arequipa!

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
