Life, Work, Ministry in September of the year of our Lord 2023

We’re Jeremy, Katie, Adileen, and Kinney Daggett and we’ve been living in Arequipa, Peru sharing life and faith for the last nine years. This newsletter is a continuation of the Team Arequipa newsletter which you may have signed up for 15 years ago and long since forgotten who we are or where Arequipa is. If that's the case, you can always unsubscribe. To those of you have have subscribed since our last letter three months ago, welcome 😊.

In two weeks we celebrate 9 years in Arequipa. We are deeply thankful for your love, support, and prayers, and ever more aware of God’s presence toward goodness and healing and peace in the midst of a chaotic and broken city.

We’re thankful for a new family, classmates of Adileen, that have been part of our house church for the last few months. They've also been helping us host Kids' Club lately! We’ve joined forces with our dear friends’ church across the city to put on the Alpha couples’ course again and are thankful to see marriages strengthened with those who are participating. Since July I’ve been teaching a university level course for a school of theology based out of the Dominican Republic, with students from a few different countries. That’s been new, really hard work, and really rewarding as well. Katie just finished an intensive course from the Community Health Evangelism network, with some further research and possible future application that we’re praying about and invite you to pray for as well. I’ve been continuing to watch The Chosen with our dear dear friends and landlords who live on the two floors below us, Pedro, Frecia, Charlie, and Tommy. We usually watch an episode and spend another hour talking about faith and questions that they have. Katie’s ministry is in a special place and I ask for prayers of encouragement and vision for her for the next three months.

Adileen and Kinney have been having a great school year—2nd grade and 4 year-old preschool, respectively. They celebrated Arequipa Day (August 15th) with traditional dances at school and had a really fun time with it. Adileen and the other kids that are part of our church have taken a more active role now that they're reading: reading portions of scripture and prayers from scripture that we have in our songbook like the Lord's Prayer. Adileen is loving gymnastics and Kinney cannot wait for his classmate Benjamin’s birthday tomorrow. He’s also really been enjoying futbol, so when we said something about football, he said “Oh, they just throw a ball around in American football.”

I take some time in this newsletter to share two articles: one about conversations of faith with our CUDA staff, and how that leads to reflecting Jesus in the way we work. Another is on the spiritual discipline of newsletter reading—which I thank you in advance for practicing :).

I’m also sharing an excerpt of Caily’s newsletter reflecting on having been here for a year! We’re so thankful for Caily and her presence here with our friends and community as well as friends and community she has developed on her own. Caily has extended her apprenticeship for another year+, and needs about $4,500 more to reach her goal. Will you consider contributing to her apprenticeship with us?
